Faculty Bio

Kathryn Thomas, M.J., joined the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in November 2001. As  senior communications officer for the childhood obesity team, she works to raise awareness of the problem of childhood obesity, as well as the need for policy and environmental solutions to the epidemic.  Her work focuses on helping the Foundation and its grantees improve access to healthy foods and opportunities for physical activity – particularly for children at highest risk for obesity and related harms.

Thomas has 15 years of experience in health-related communications for print, broadcast and online media.  Prior to joining the Foundation, she served as senior vice president and chief operating officer of Digital Ingenuity, Inc. in Philadelphia. She previously served as coordinator of multimedia communications for the University of Pennsylvania Health System .

Thomas received a master's degree in journalism and a bachelor of arts in radio, television and film from Temple University.
