Faculty Bio
Meir Stampfer, MD, DrPH is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition at Harvard School of Public Health where he has served, since 2000, as Chair of the Department of Epidemiology. Dr. Stampfer is principal investigator for several grants from the National Cancer Institute and Prostate Cancer Foundation. In addition, he is principal investigator of a training grant in Nutritional Epidemiology of Cancer that currently supports six predoctoral students and four postdoctoral fellows at Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Stampfer has published over 630 original articles, and 130 reviews and editorials. He was identified as the most highly cited individual in clinical medicine over the past decade. Dr. Stampfer has served on a variety of editorial boards, and for many years was chair of the NIH Study Section for review of grants in cancer epidemiology.
Dr. Stampfer has a wealth of experience in mentoring students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty. He has been primary mentor for 17 predoctoral students and 9 postdoctoral fellows, many of whom have achieved high ranking positions in academia. These include current Harvard faculty members Gary Curhan, Michelle Holmes, Jing Ma, Carlos Camargo, Voula Osganian, Frank Hu, Ravi Thadhani, Lorelei Mucci, and Donald Simonson. Other trainees include Kathleen Egan at Vanderbilt Medical School, Lisa Chasan-Taber at UMass School of Public Health, Dr. June Chen at UCSF, and Peter Gann at University of Illinois.
