Faculty Bio

Michelle Hauser, BS is a third-year student at Harvard Medical School and research assistant to Dr. David Eisenberg, at the Osher Research Center.  She is a culinary educator and graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, Minneapolis (Le Cordon Bleu Diplôme), completing an internship at Alice Water’s restaurant, Chez Panisse.  She completed a Bachelor of Sciences (Major in Cellular/Molecular Biology, Minor in Chemistry) in 2005 at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California.

While at Humboldt, she managed and taught at Pacific Flavors Cooking School, wrote curriculum and taught Professional Cooking for College of the Redwoods, did freelance nutrition education and restaurant consultation, and cooked at local restaurants and the Arcata Farmer’s Market in Humboldt County.  Her research included cardiovascular-bioengineering investigation supported by the American Heart Association and University of California, San Diego and molecular and microbiology genetics research supported by Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Humboldt State University.  Her collaboration with researchers and faculty of the Stanford Prevention Research Center and Humboldt State University focused on increasing the admission and retention of underrepresented students in college programs in science and healthcare fields, with particular focus on Native American issues.

She entered Harvard Medical School in 2006 where she participates in committees designed to increase diversity and promote cultural competency in medicine, examine and promote awareness and change of environmental impacts on human health, advance general curriculum reform, and increase nutrition and preventive medicine integration into medical education.
